Duff, Meuser Named to All-Tournament Team
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's soccer players Kody Duff and Casey Meuser were named to the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Aztec Soccer Tournament all-tourney squad on Monday. The duo was a part of an 11-player team that featured players from SDSU, USD, Ohio State and Houston Baptist. Duff scored his first goal of the season, which ended up being the game-winner, in the 3-2 victory over Houston Baptist on Friday. The junior also took a game-high four shots and led all players with three shots on goal in 57 minutes off the bench. Then in the fixture vs. Ohio State, Duff scored in the 41st minute and finished with two shots, both of which were on net. Meuser, meanwhile, earned the start in both games and asserted himself in the midfield. A native of Granite Bay, Calif., Meuser attempted one shot vs. the Huskies in 57 minutes and played an integral role in helping the Aztecs thwart HBU's second-half rally. Two days later vs. the Buckeyes, Meuser played the entire 90 minutes and attempted three shots, which was the second-most on the team. USD was the champion of the event after beating Ohio State and Houston Baptist, and the Buckeyes finished in second place, edging out SDSU after utilizing the head-to-head competition tiebreaker. HBU finished tournament action in fourth place. Joining Duff and Meuser on the all-tournament squad were four players (Matt Chavez, Michael D'Arrigo, Christian Duke, Julian Ringhof) from San Diego, three from Ohio State (Louis Berra, Chris Gomez, Chris Hegngi), and a pair from Houston Baptist (Christian Cruz, Kristopher Tyrpak). The Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament was USD's Elijah Galbraith-Knapp and the Most Outstanding Defensive Player was Alex Wimmer of Ohio State.
