SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State men's soccer player Joe Corona earned his second career cap for the U.S. Men's National Team in a 1-0 international friendly win over Mexico on Wednesday night at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico. Corona entered in the 89th minute and played four minutes of extra time to help preserve the United States' first victory over Mexico on its home soil. Corona's effort comes months after he made his debut with the men's national team in a 5-1 win over Scotland in Jacksonville, Fla., back in May. Another former Aztec, Steve Beitashour, trained with the squad and was with the team in Mexico City, but did not see any action. Up next for the U.S. are two games vs. Jamaica as it returns to 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying. The team will square off first in Kingston, Jamaica, at 6:30 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 7, before taking the pitch one more time in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. PT. |
