SDSU Men's Soccer Fifth in Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The 2012 San Diego State men's soccer team has been picked to finish in fifth place in the Pac-12 Conference, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. The annual preseason poll was voted on the by the conference's head coaches.
The Aztecs received 11 points and find themselves three points behind fourth-place Stanford (14 points). UCLA is the preseason favorite with 24 points and four first-place votes, with California coming in second with one first-place tally and 18 points overall. Washington picked up the other first-place vote and finds itself in third place with 17 points. Oregon State rounded out the poll in sixth with six points.
SDSU opens the 2012 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 18, when it plays host to New Mexico at Montezuma Road in a 1 p.m. PT friendly. Admission to the exhibition, as well as all regular-season home games, is free.
The games start to matter on Friday, Aug. 31, when the Aztecs travel to Bloomington, Ind., for The adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. San Diego State will face Notre Dame in the season opener at 5 p.m. ET, before taking on the hosts, No. 12 Indiana, on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. ET.
The Scarlet and Black's home opener is slated for Sept. 7, when it will Light the Night for the first time at Montezuma Road as Houston Baptist is set to visit for a 7 p.m. PT tilt. The Aztecs' game vs. HBU and its date vs. Ohio State on Sept. 9, will be a part of the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Soccer Tournament. During the home-opening weekend, the program will also honor the 1987 team that advanced to the NCAA title game.
