SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's soccer's 2012 recruiting class has received a No. 30 national ranking from College Soccer News. It is the sixth time in the last seven years in which the Aztecs have earned a top-40 rating and the fifth time they have had an incoming class ranked No. 30 or better. The accolades of the seven-player class include, but are not limited to, two United States Under-17 National Team members, a U.S. U-20 player, a two-time youth All-American, five academy players, numerous player of the year award winners, as well as multiple starters on regional ODP teams. Of San Diego State's recruiting class, College Soccer News said, "The Aztecs added a seven-member recruiting class that includes six true freshmen and one transfer. Forward Daniel Flores, a U.S. U-17 National Team residency member, headlines the class. U.S. U-17 National Team member defender Julio Alarcon, out of the Real Salt Lake USSF Academy, and defender Jimmy Estrada from Chula Vista are solid additions, as is transfer midfielder Blake Wise from Indiana." SDSU shared the 30th spot on College Soccer News' top-30 list with CS Bakersfield and fellow Pac-12 Conference member, Washington. The other league institution on the list was UCLA, which checked in at No. 5. San Diego State will begin its quest for a national championship on Aug. 18, when it plays host to New Mexico in a friendly starting at 1 p.m. PT. The Aztecs' regular season gets underway in Indianapolis, Ind., when they participate in The adidas/IU Credit Union Classic where they will face Notre Dame (Aug. 31) and No. 12 Indiana (Sept. 2). SDSU's home opener is slated for Sept. 7, when it will Light the Night for the first time at Montezuma Road as Houston Baptist is set to visit for a 7 p.m. PT tilt. The Aztecs' game vs. HBU and its date vs. Ohio State on Sept. 9, will be a part of the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Soccer Tournament. During the home-opening weekend, the program will also honor the 1987 team that advanced to the NCAA title game. |
