San Diego State men's soccer head coach Lev Kirshner has announced its schedule for the 2008 season. The 18-match slate is highlighted by 10 home contests, including the inaugural The Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament (Sept. 5-7) and the SDSU/USD Soccer Tournament (Sept. 19-21).

The 2008 schedule may be the toughest of Kirshner's nine-year tenure as eight of the 18 games are against teams who made the 2007 NCAA tournament. In addition, nine of the contests are versus teams who finished the season with a 37 RPI rating or better.

Following a three-match exhibition schedule which includes its annual Alumni Game on Aug. 30, SDSU kicks off its season Friday, Sept. 5 when it plays host to Big 10 power Michigan in the first game of The Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament. Last season, the Wolverines were held out of the NCAA tournament despite finishing with a 10-7-2 record and a No. 34 final RPI rating. San Diego State will play Albany, a team it defeated, 3-2, in its 2006 season-opener, in its other game of the tournament on Sunday.

The Aztecs travel to the Rocky Mountains the following weekend for two games in Denver, Colo. SDSU will meet Denver on Sept. 12 before playing Air Force on Sept. 14.

San Diego State returns to The Mesa on Sept. 19-21 for the SDSU/USD Soccer Tournament. This year, the Aztecs will meet two Big West schools in UC Irvine (Sept. 19) and UC Davis (Sept. 21). Last season, UC Davis made the NCAA tournament after posting a 12-5-3 record.

SDSU begins a four-game road trip on Sept. 28 with a cross-country trip to Hanover, N.H., for a match against Ivy League power Dartmouth. This will be the second-ever meeting between the two schools, as the teams played to a 1-1, double-overtime tie during the 2004 campaign. Dartmouth earned a trip to last year's NCAA tourney after going 11-4-3 and finishing the season with the 22nd-best RPI rating in the country.

San Diego State begins its fourth season of Pac-10 play on Oct. 5 when it travels to Los Angeles for a game against UCLA. The Aztecs stay on the road the following weekend with a trip to the Bay Area against conference foes Stanford (Oct. 10) and California (Oct. 12).

The following weekend, SDSU begins a home-and-home series with Oregon State and Washington. San Diego State hosts the Beavers (Oct. 17) and Huskies (Oct. 19) and then travels to the two schools on Oct. 24 and Oct. 26, respectively.

The Aztecs end their regular season with a four-game homestand, including games against Stanford (Oct. 31), California (Nov. 2) and Cal State Bakersfield (Nov. 9). SDSU wraps up Pac-10 play on Senior Day, Nov. 15 with a game against UCLA.
