SAN DIEGO - Current San Diego State men's soccer junior forward Jordan Ongaro was one of 14 players to be selected for Canada's futsal roster. The team is currently looking for a spot in the 2012 CONCACAF Championship.
As part of the team's preparations, Ongaro and Canada faced Costa Rica this past weekend in Heredia, Costa Rica. Canada is now off to Guatemala where it will face El Salvador in a two-match playoff series, which is set for June 28-29.
Seven teams have already qualified for the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championship, which runs July 2-8. Either Canada or El Salvador will qualify as the eighth team, joining Guatemala, USA and Panama in Group A. The opposite Group B features Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico and St. Kitts and Nevis. The top-four teams in the competition will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012
Ongaro played in all 19 games with nine starts last season at San Diego State. He shared the team lead in goals (5) and was tied for second with 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists).
