SDSU's Myles Davis Called Up to Canada U-23 Camp

March 2, 2008

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior defender Myles Davis (Delta, B.C., Canada) is one of 30 players who have been called up to the Canada Under-23 Men's National Team Camp by head coach Nick Dasovic.

"I am excited for the opportunity to represent Canada in the 2008 Olympics," Davis said. "It's not everyday you get to play for your country in such a prestigious stage. I will work hard to represent my country and San Diego State University to the best of my ability."

Davis, who has 14 caps at the international level, will participate with the camp until at least March 10, when Dasovic will cut the team down to approximately 20 players. Dasovic is not bound to the list and will be able to make changes after March 10 for medical reasons.

Over the 10-day stretch, Canada's U-23 team will play a pair of exhibitions, one against Westmont College on March 4 and another against Davis' former team UC Santa Barbara on March 7.

Canada will compete in a round-robin tournament in Carson, Calif., with games against Mexico (March 12), Haiti (March 14) and Guatemala (March 16). If they finish among the top-two teams in their group, they will advance to the semi-finals on March 20 in Nashville, Tenn., where they will play against a team from another round-robin group. The winner of that game will advance to the March 23 final for a chance to qualify for the Olympics.

Davis joins former Aztec Tally Hall (United States) and current junior Omar Persad (Jamaica) as players who are in the Olympic pool for their respective countries.
