Jan. 19, 2007

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Omar Persad (Louisville, Ky./Trinity HS) has been called up to the Jamaica Under-20 national team to compete at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup qualification matches. Persad, who previously played for the United States U-16 team, will join the team as soon as possible as the qualifying matches are slated for Feb. 21-25 in Culiacan, Mexico.

Jamaica is joined in Group B by Mexico, Costa Rica, St. Kitts and Nevis, with the top two teams moving on to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup. The U-20 World Cup will be held in six cities (Edmonton, Burnaby, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Victoria) across Canada from June 30-July 22.

Persad started three of the 19 games he appeared in last year, tying for fifth on the team with six points on two goals and two assists. Over his two seasons at SDSU, Persad has recorded three goals and four assists.
