Men's Soccer Drops Match at No. 3 Washington, 5-3

SEATTLE, Wash. - The San Diego State men's soccer team matched its second-highest offensive output of the season on Friday, but suffered a road loss to No. 3/3/3 Washington, 5-3, at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Senior forward Jordan Ongaro scored a season-high two goals for the Aztecs (3-7-1, 0-3-1 Pac-12), who answered an early Washington goal in the first half, and later pulled within one in the second half. Senior midfielders Abraham Villon and Blake Wise each recorded one assist, while senior midfielder Kevin Bick scored his second goal of the season in the 85th minute and led the Aztecs with six shots.
Ongaro now has a team-high seven goals this season, after entering the week as the leading scorer in Pac-12 Conference play. Villon leads SDSU with 15 points this season and entered the week with the most assists in conference play, while Wise and Bick are tied for fourth on the team with five points.
The Aztecs got on the scoreboard with Ongaro's header in the 8th minute off a cross from Wise to knot the score, 1-1. After Washington closed out the first half with two goals by Darwin Jones, Ongaro's second score of the day off an assist from Villon cut San Diego State's deficit to 3-2 in the 75th minute.
However, Washington quickly responded with Cristian Roldan's second goal of the match in the 77th minute, and a Josh Heard score in the 85th minute extended its lead, 5-2.
The Aztecs finished the match with a 10-6 edge in corner kicks, and also out-shot the Huskies in the second half, 8-7. In addition, senior goalkeeper Blake Hylen tallied six saves.
San Diego State returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 20, on the road at Oregon State. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. PT.
Man of the Match: Senior midfielder Kevin Bick (Louisville, Ky.) was named Man of the Match on Friday, as he recorded his second goal of the season in the second half, and finished with a team-high six shots.
