SDSU Men's Golf Fall Opener Postponed
Sept. 5, 2008
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team's fall season opener in South Carolina has been postponed due to severe weather conditions resulting from Hurricane Hanna. The Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Michigan State, was to be held this weekend, Sept. 7-8, at the Haig Point Club in Daufuskie Island, S.C. The inaugural tournament has been rescheduled for Nov. 3-4. Haig Point recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation overseen by Rees Jones and his design associate, Greg Muirhead. The changes included adding length to the course to make it 7,350 yards and changing features to challenge players of all levels. SDSU will begin its season at the end of the month in Seattle at the Washington Husky Invitational. The tournament is scheduled to take place Sept. 29-30, where last year the Aztecs tied for 5th, with the last day of the tournament cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Aztecs enter 2008 fresh off of a 14th-place finish last year at the NCAA championships. This season the Aztecs will compete in four tournaments in the fall and eight tournaments in the spring, including the Mountain West Conference Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
