SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's J.J. Spaun (San Dimas, Calif.), who completed his eligibility last month, was named a third-team All-American by Golfweek. This is the second year in a row that Spaun has been recognized by the publication after earning a slot on the honorable mention squad as a junior. Spaun also picked up All-America honors twice from the Golf Coaches Association of America during his collegiate career, grabbing a spot on the second team this year and after his third-team selection in 2011. He is the second Aztec to be recognized twice by Golfweek, as former standout Aaron Goldberg was a two-time honorable mention pick from 2007-08. Spaun, who recently turned pro, led SDSU to its best-ever Division I finish in 2012, as the squad tied for fifth place after advancing to the match-play portion of the NCAA championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Individually, he logged his second-consecutive top-15 performance at nationals by tying for 13th place after coming in third in 2011. The 2012 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, Spaun won three tournaments this past season all in consecutive weeks and his five career medalist honors tie him for first in school history along with SDSU Hall of Famer Lennie Clements. He was also a three-time all-league honoree (2010-11-12) and ended the campaign ranked 17th by Golfstat.com and 21st nationally by Golfweek. Golfweek recognized 50 of the nation's top men's collegiate golfers overall with 10 on the first, second and third teams, followed by 20 honorable mention selections. The honor is based on the final Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. 2011-12 Golfweek Division I All-America Teams Justin Thomas, Fr., Alabama Jordan Spieth, Fr., Texas Dylan Frittelli, Sr., Texas Patrick Rodgers, Fr., Stanford Chris Williams, Jr., Washington Eugene Wong, Sr., Oregon Blayne Barber, Jr., Auburn Julien Brun, Fr., TCU T.J.
