A Pair of Aztecs Named to MWC All-Conference Team
May 1, 2006 SAN DIEGO - Shortly after the San Diego State men's golf team placed second in the Mountain West Conference championship tournament, senior Andrew Scott and sophomore Aaron Goldberg were named to the MWC All-Conference team. This is the first time for both players to receive this nomination. Scott and Goldberg joined eight other players on the team, including tournament champion Jay Choi (New Mexico); MWC player of the year, Jake Ellison (BYU); and freshman of the year, Seung-su Han (UNLV). Overall, UNLV had the most players nominated for the conference team with three, followed by San Diego State and BYU with two nominations each. During the conference championships, Scott led all Aztec golfers with a second place finish, followed by Goldberg who tied with fellow teammate, David Palm, for 14th. Individually on the season, Scott led the team in stroke average (72.2), SCIRP average (+1.5) and has played in every varsity tournament this year. He also broke SDSU's record for the lowest 54-hole score with 203 carded during the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, and now holds the second lowest 18-hole score with a 64, which he also carded at this tournament. Goldberg, much like Scott, experienced a great deal of success over the course of the regular season, holding six top-20 finishes, the second lowest stroke average (72.6), second lowest 18-hole score (65) and the second lowest SCIRP average on the season (+2.9) in 11 tournaments played.
