EL CAJON, Calif. - The San Diego State men's golf team picked up a stroke and finished alone in sixth place at the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. SDSU completed the three-round tournament at Willow Glen Golf Course with a score of 12-under par (290-275-287--852).

Johan Carlsson was San Diego State's top performer over three rounds and finished in a tie for 11th place. The sophomore shot a 1-over 73 in the final round and ultimately entered the clubhouse with a 5-under par 211.

Alex Kang, who played as an individual on the Aztecs' B-team, matched Carlsson's effort over three rounds as he, too, finished at 5-under. The freshman carded a 67 in the first round and was steady the next two rounds with a pair of even-par 72s.

Coming in a 3-under (213) and in a tie for 24th place were David Palm and J.J. Spaun. Palm, a member of the SDSU first team, was 1-under for the day to log the A-group's second-best score of the day. Spaun, meanwhile, ran into a little trouble during his time with the second team and finished the day with a 2-over 74.

Finishing one shot back of Palm and Spaun was Andrew Cooley. The freshman ended the tournament on a low note with his 3-over 75, but still managed to finish in a tie for 28th with his three-round score of 214 (-2).

In a tie for 35th place at even-par 216 were a trio of Aztecs in Bryan Martin, Colin Featherstone and David Lyons. Martin, a first-year member of the team and playing with the scoring group, carded the Scarlet and Black's top score of the day with his 3-under 69. Only eight others in the 120-player field posted a score better than Martin's. Featherstone, meanwhile, shot a 2-under 70 to finish the tournament and Lyons logged a 2-over 74.

Other Aztecs to finish the tournament were Ryan Citarella (+1), Michael Wynn (+3), Matt Hoffenberg (+4), Jerry Porras (+6) and Tyler Morris (+16).

San Diego State returns to action Nov. 3-4 when they travel to Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational.
