San Diego State Looks for Second Straight Victory; Aztecs Travel to Lone Star State to Battle TCU
Following a two touchdown victory over UNLV, San Diego State (2-7 overall; 2-3 Mountain West Conference) looks for consecutive victories as the Aztec football program travels to the Lone Star State for the first time since 2003, to battle the defending Mountain West Conference champions TCU (7-2; 3-2 MWC).

Game time is set for 3 p.m. CST (1 p.m. PST) and the game will be televised nationally by Versus. The game can also be heard up and down the west coast on XX Sports Radio (1090 AM and 105.7 FM in San Diego).

Last Saturday, San Diego State responded from a pair of heartbreaking losses (14-16 to Cal Poly and 24-27 at Wyoming) with a 21-7 victory over UNLV at Qualcomm Stadium.

The Aztec defense allowed just 250 yards and surrendered only seven points despite the Rebels making five trips into the SDSU red zone and starting three drives at their 44-yard line or better. SDSU had six tackles for loss and broke up a season-high six passes in the contest.

The Aztec offense produced an economical 277 yards of total offense. SDSU had just one turnover in the contest, and produced long touchdown drives of 80 and 74 yards in the contest. San Diego State also ended a three-game drought without a rushing touchdown by getting a pair of rushing scores from Kevin O'Connell and Brandon Bornes.

After surviving some devastating early season injuries and a new system, San Diego State has played much better of late. The Aztecs have won twice in its last four games, with opportunities to win the other two contests in the closing moment of the game. San Diego State has scored first in its last four games and has led at the half in all four of those contests.

After suffering consecutive losses to Brigham Young and at Utah, TCU has reeled off four consecutive victories by a combined score of 109-51. Last Saturday, the Horned Frogs claimed a 27-21 victory at New Mexico after racing out to a 24-0 halftime lead. TCU features one of the best defenses in the nation, ranking fourth among NCAA teams in rushing yards allowed (72.00), 12th in total yards allowed (273.89) and 12th in scoring defense (13.89).

The teams met for the first time last season, with the 20th-ranked Horned Frogs claiming a 23-20 victory at Qualcomm Stadium on Oct. 22, 2005. San Diego State led 13-7 at intermission and the contest was tied at 13 after three quarters. The Aztecs had their opportunities, but a missed 35-yard field goal and a fourth quarter red-zone interception eventually did in SDSU's upset hopes.

The football game leads off a day of Aztec programming on Versus. Following the football contest, Steve Fisher's undefeated and defending MWC champion basketball team will play host to California on the network.
