COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State football player Ryan Katz has been named the Mountain West Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. It is the first weekly honor for the senior and Oregon State transfer.
Katz accounted for five touchdowns and 247 yards of total offense to lead the Aztecs to a 52-14 victory over Hawai'i on Saturday night. On the ground, the Santa Monica, Calif., native carried 10 times for 57 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, including scoring runs of 27, 34 and nine yards. Katz became the first SDSU quarterback with three rushing touchdowns since Kevin O'Connell had three at Colorado State on Oct. 6, 2007.
Katz added 190 yards through the air with two touchdown passes, his 10th and 11th of the season and 29th and 30th of his career. He has now thrown for multiple touchdown passes in four consecutive games and 11 times in his career.
On the season, Katz is 80-for-137 for 1,147 yards and 11 touchdowns, while throwing just four interceptions. His 149.38 passing efficiency is ranked 30th in the nation. Katz is also third on the team with 268 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
New Mexico's Kasey Carrier shared the award with Katz.
San Diego State plays host to Colorado State at 3:30 p.m. PT Saturday.
