Alesi Named MW Special Teams Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State football junior punter Joel Alesi (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS) has been named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced today. It is the first career weekly MW honor for Alesi and the first by an Aztec this season.
Alesi punted four times for 201 yards, averaging a career-high 50.3 yards per attempt in SDSU's 51-44 overtime win over Nevada on Friday. Three of his four punts went for at least 50 yards, including a long of 54 yards. Two of his punts finished inside the 6-yard line, including the final one on the 1-yard line that pinned the Wolf Pack with 23 seconds left in regulation and the game tied at 44-44. Alesi ended up posting a net punt average of 46.5 yards, which was also a season-high mark.
For the season, Alesi has punted 22 times for 915 yards for a 41.6 avg., which ranks 53rd in the country. Out of his 22 punts, six have been inside the 20, five inside the 10 and two inside the 5. Additionally, eight of his 22 punts have been fair caught and six have gone for 50-plus yards. Only five of his 22 punts have been returned this year.
Over his career, Alesi is averaging 42.00 yards on 28 punts.
