Football to Host Aztec Hat Giveaway on Friday
Oct. 1, 2013
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State athletics announced its home football game against Nevada this Friday, Oct. 4, will be a free Aztec Hat Giveaway for the first 30,000 fans in attendance. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. PT, at Qualcomm Stadium, and is also part of the GEICO Fleet Week Football Classic.
Friday night's game will also be televised nationally on ESPN, and will be San Diego State's first regular season home game shown on ESPN since the Aztecs defeated Wyoming, 39-7, on Nov. 27, 1998. It will mark the 20th time SDSU football has appeared on ESPN, including its past three bowl games, and the 11th regular season home game to be aired on the network.
The Aztecs have won three straight games against Nevada, and leads the all-time series, 3-2. SDSU's last meeting with the Wolfpack resulted in an Aztecs victory in overtime, 39-38, last season. San Diego State has won seven straight Mountain West Conference games dating back to last season, which is tied for the ninth-longest in-conference winning streak in the nation.
SDSU is coming off a road victory over New Mexico State, 26-16, on Saturday. Freshman running back Donnel Pumphrey (Las Vegas, Nev.) rushed for a career-high 167 yards with three touchdowns to lift the Aztecs to the win.
San Diego State will have three home games remaining on its schedule after Friday, including the homecoming game against Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 26, a matchup with New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 2, during Aztec Hall of Fame weekend and a senior night game against Boise State on Saturday, Nov. 23.
