SDSU Football to Play at North Carolina in 2014
Sept. 26, 2013
SAN DIEGO -
San Diego State director of athletics Jim Sterk announced this morning that the Aztec football team will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., next season to play North Carolina. The game against the Tar Heels is scheduled for Sept. 6, 2014.
Next year will be the second all-time meeting between SDSU and UNC. The teams previously met at the 1998 Las Vegas Bowl with North Carolina escaping with a 20-13 win. San Diego State is 3-6 all-time against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
The Tar Heels are currently 1-2 this year entering their home game with East Carolina this Saturday. UNC is coming off an 8-4 record in 2012, including a 5-3 mark in the ACC.
With the addition of North Carolina, the Aztecs' 2014 road schedule is likely set. SDSU is scheduled to play non-conference games against the Tar Heels (Sept. 6) and at Oregon State (Sept. 20). Additionally, San Diego State will play Mountain West road contests at Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada and New Mexico.
The Aztecs' 2014 home schedule includes MW games against Air Force, Hawai'i, San José State and UNLV. SDSU will likely play two more home non-conference contests.
San Diego State travels to New Mexico State this Saturday for its final non-conference game of the season. Kickoff for the Aztecs and Aggies is 6 p.m. MT/5 p.m. PT and will be broadcast locally on Fox Sports San Diego and ESPN3.
