SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State football team worked out for the fourth consecutive day and the second straight day on campus Friday afternoon at the Aztec practice facility. The two and a half hour workout came in warm, sunny conditions and preceded the annual Big 50 dinner, where the players got a chance to eat a barbeque meal with their families and team supporters.

For the second consecutive afternoon, SDSU head coach Chuck Long praised the team's defensive effort after practice.

"The defense had a great day today," Long said. "(Defensive back) Davion Mauldin is having a nice camp and (defensive back) Vonnie Holmes is showing up a lot. (Linebacker) Russell Allen is also playing very well as expected. I really like our pass rush right now - our front four. They are playing some good football and they just need to keep going at it."

Long also reiterated the impact that staying at Camp Pendleton has had on the team's overall spirit.

"We have really started this camp off in a great way," Long said. "The Camp Pendleton part of camp was just fantastic and opened a lot of eyes, not only on the team, but on the coaching staff. I thought it was good for everyone and you just feel a much different energy and purpose with the guys. So far, so good."

The Aztecs have two more single-day practices this weekend before the team's first two-a-day practice on Monday.
