SAN DIEGO --
Tyler Campbell will be one of the
main threats from the Aztec backfield this season. An Austin, Texas, native, the
senior fullback will provide leadership to a young offense.
Last season, Campbell played in
all 12 games for the second straight season and earned the Iron Man Special
Teams Payer Award at the season-ending banquet. He also rushed 10 times for
seven yards and two touchdowns. For his career, Campbell has 13 carries for 13
yards with two scores to his credit.
Campbell, the son of Pro
Football Hall of Fame and 1977 Heisman winner Earl Campbell, recently spoke with

On what we can expect in the 2008 season:
"Surprises. Not only from me but from the Aztecs in general. We lost a lot
of guys to the NFL, Kevin O'Connell being one of the big names. A lot of new
names on offense but these are guys who understand the responsibility on their
shoulders as far as stepping in and taking care of business. We have a lot of
strength on defense."
On what motivates him and how he motivates other people:
"Just the understanding that I'm blessed to be playing football at a
Division 1 level. I'm living a dream that a lot of teenagers in high school
wish they could have. It makes it easy to wake up in the morning realizing that
you're lucky to do the things that you do."
On things he does to help out in the community:
"Most recently I volunteered for the San Diego Chargers for the football
camp that they have there, YMCA and various Boys and Girls Clubs across San
Diego. It gives you a good opportunity to interact with kids on an athletic
level and teach them to pursue their dreams. I also help with "Shop with a
Jock" that's held every year close to Christmas time."
On what he thinks about the football team being picked to finish seventh
in the MWC:
"As an athlete, I think it's important to not listen to or buy in to what
the tabloids think. I'm kind of excited about it because we're under the radar
and it's going to make it easier for us to sneak up on a lot of teams."
