July 17, 2012
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - San Diego State junior wide receiver Colin Lockett has been tabbed to the 2012 Biletnikoff Award watch list by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. Lockett is one of 48 candidates up for the honor, which is handed out annually to the nation's most outstanding college football wide receiver.
Lockett, who is one of two selected to the Biletnikoff watch list from the Mountain West, has already been named to the all-purpose trophy watch list and the kick returner trophy watch list by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA). The Diamond Bar, Calif., native led SDSU in receiving last year with 970 yards and his 74.6 receiving yards per game ranked fourth in the conference. Lockett also tallied 678 yards on special teams in 2010, including a 94-yard kickoff return touchdown in the season opener against Cal Poly.
This is the fourth consecutive season an Aztec had been tabbed to the Biletnikoff Watch List, as Lockett was tabbed the last two years and former standout Vincent Brown was selected as a preseason candidate in 2010 and was a semifinalist in 2009.
A list of 10 semifinalists will be released on Nov. 12, before being cut down to three finalists on Nov. 19. The winner will be announced on Dec. 6 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show which airs live on ESPN. The honor will be officially presented to the winner at a banquet on Feb. 9, 2013.
The Biletnikoff award dates back to 1994, and is named for Fred Biletnikoff, who was an All-America wide receiver at Florida State and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
