Marshall Faulk Jersey Giveaway Planned for 2008 Football Opener
May 28, 2008
2008 SDSU Football Schedule in PDF Format SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will open its 2008 football season with one of the most anticipated promotions in school history. The first 20,000 fans through the gates at Qualcomm Stadium for the season opener against Cal Poly on Aug. 30 will receive a Marshall Faulk San Diego State Replica Jersey presented by Associated Students. Faulk, who wore number 28 at San Diego State from 1991-93, was a three-time first-team All-American who finished in the top nine among Heisman Trophy voting in all three of his seasons. In 1992, he led the nation in rushing for the second consecutive season, averaging 163.0 yards in 10 games, and finished second in the Heisman balloting. He ended his career with 4,589 rushing yards and 57 rushing touchdowns in 31 games. Faulk went on to have a storied NFL career, earning league most valuable player honors in 2000 and three consecutive offensive player of the year awards (1999-2001). He gained 19,154 yards from scrimmage (fourth highest total in NFL history), 12,279 rushing yards (ninth highest in NFL history) and an NFL running back record 6,875 receiving yards in his career. The second overall selection in the 1994 NFL Draft, Faulk was a seven-time NFL Pro Bowl selection. The Faulk Jersey giveaway is in addition to other events planned for opening night, including Football Alumni Weekend, with all former football letterwinners invited back to the game. There will be a Welcome Week Student Tailgate, featuring live music, food and interactive games for SDSU students in conjunction with Welcome Week activities. Other promotions for the 2008 football season that were released last week include the following: On Sept. 27, the Aztecs play host to Idaho at 5 p.m. PT for SDSU Family Weekend and the annual Band Day, with more than 1,500 members of high school bands expected to take part in the halftime show. Two great promotions are combined for the MWC home opener against Air Force on Oct. 11, as it is KGB SkyShow night as well as the GEICO Fleet Week game. Following the contest against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. PT, the largest fireworks show in the county will occur in the annual SkyShow. This is the fifth season that an SDSU football game has played host to the event, with the previous four contests averaging crowds of 54,997. This year, Fleet Week is teamed up with the SkyShow, as the SDSU athletic department pays tribute to the military throughout the game, including on-field acknowledgements of members from the Wounded Warriors Program. Homecoming is set for Oct. 25, as the Aztecs face Colorado State at 6:30 p.m. PT. On Nov. 15, San Diego State will face Utah at 5 p.m. PT in the Hall of Fame and Letterwinners Weekend. The newest members of the Aztec Hall of Fame, presented by the Wise Foundation, will be honored at a special halftime ceremony. The game is also designated as the first Letterwinners Weekend, with former letterwinners from all sports invited to the match-up with the Utes. The final home game is set for Nov. 22, when the Aztecs take on UNLV at 5 p.m. PT. Members of the senior class will be introduced in a special pregame ceremony. Season tickets for the six-game home schedule start at just $50 or as little as $8.33 per game, a savings of 46 percent over individual game pricing, and are available through the Aztec Ticket Office at (619) 283-SDSU. Single game tickets for all games, including the contest against Air Force, go on sale July 14.
