SDSU POSTGAME QUOTES | UNLV POSTGAME QUOTES
San Diego State's Head Coach Rocky Long Opening Statement
"Obviously we played very poorly. I think they played really well. You've got to give them credit, they played extremely well. But we played poorly on all sides of the ball. We were bad in the kicking game. We were bad on offense. We were bad on defense. When you can't get a fourth and half a yard to keep a drive alive, obviously you're not doing what you need to do what you need to stay in the game offensively. Our corners got chewed up. We got beat on some deep passes that got the game out of whack early on, by giving up those passes. It was a total team effort. We played extremely poorly."
On a mental standpoint, did the team have edge they needed to going in:
On trying to do different things to get back into the ball game:
"Obviously, we tried to call the right plays on offense that we thought they would execute well and the right defenses that they thought they could execute."
On his message to the team after the game:
"Right now, that we got our butts beat. You've got to give the other team credit because they came out and played and we didn't come out and play."
UNLV head coach Bobby Hauck's opening statement
"Obviously we're really fired up with the win and how we did it .San Diego State is a really good football team. They're probably the hottest team in the Mountain West. For our guys and our assistant coaches to put that plan together and for our guys to go out and execute it like that and win convincingly against the team that came in this game winning seven of the last eight and just on a roll is special and impressive to me. Obviously some really good things came out of this. Obviously these
guys, Caleb Herring and Devante Davis, both set school records for touchdowns, throwing and catching. San Diego State has been punishing people with their run game, they rushed for 88-yards tonight. Its the first time in school history we've won five MW conference games in a season, that's big. The third time since 1984, so 29-30 years since we've had seven wins in a regular season three times just proud of our guys and excellent job by our kids executing the plan, and excellent job by our assistant coaches putting it together. I just thought it was a well prepared team and those guys did a really nice job."
On Caleb Herring's performance:
"I've said it a few times and I'm going to say it again. Thisg uy is a special cat and I think thats' the attitude on our team. I think it permeates our football team that he's a shining example to kids around the country, especially at his position where it seems like the first time something goes adverse to someone in their situation, they bail on their football team and all he did was ask for help so whether it was wide receiver, holder or playing quarterback, he did it. His teammates love him and so do his coaches, he's just a special guy."
On Devante Davis' performance:
"He's becoming and immerging into being a big time player and go to guy, obviously has been through a big portion of this season and he's another guy who had a tremendous off season. Just the jump in his level of play from last year to this year speaks volumes about his work ethic and determination to become a great player. I really think the sky's the limit for Devante."
On why UNLV should go to a bowl game:
"We're a good team and we're fun to watch, and we're going to bea n enjoyable group to have in the bowl game. We're going to represent Las Vegas and the university well. People in the bowl game are going to enjoy having us."
UNLV quarterback Caleb Herring on the long week ahead to see what happens:
"We did what we could control, that's the feeling you have after a game like this. Whatever happens, wherever things lye is in somebody else's hands right now and we did our part to make things turn out well for us so it's not going to be too stressful, we just wait like everyone else."
On the coach's speech before Herring's senior game:
"He said he's proud and we've been on a long road together. Coming in my first year playing, my first year was under him so we've been on this journey here together and been though our up's and down's and bumps along the way but both of us have stuck with it. That's kind of the feeling; emotionally I tried to hold it back because we had a game to play. He just said he's proud and go get `em."
UNLV wide receiver Devante Davis on Caleb moving from WR to QB:
"First I want to start by saying he wasn't that bad of a receiver. He was actually pretty good, he knew where to tell us where every hole in any zone was. Calebs' a great guy, works very hard, especially in the off season. He'll call you up and say he wants to throw, whether we're on the field we're in concrete in front of apartments, he's going to call and we're going to run routes. It just shows how much work he put in his off season, how much work we all put in to come out here and get the victory."
On Davis setting records:
"Records are great, but the ultimate goal is winning and pushing ourselves towards the bowl game and that's what we did. I'm more proud of that then a record."
