COACHING EXPERIENCE
- Begins his sixth year of his third stint on Montezuma Mesa. For the fifth consecutive year, he will work with the wide receivers after coaching the Aztec running backs in 2005.
- Coached one of the best 1-2 receiver tandems in the nation last year, helping Vincent Brown and DeMarco Sampson earn second-team all-MWC honors. Brown was one of the top receivers in the country, ranking third nationally in receiving yards per game (129.7), seventh in receptions per game (7.5) and ninth in all-purpose yards per game (173.83), before an injury early in his seventh game sidelined him for the rest of the season. Brown was also one of just five non-seniors to be named a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist, given to the nation's top receiver. Sampson, meanwhile, led the league with eight receiving touchdowns in MWC games, three more than the next closest player.
- Tutored a pair of 2008 NFL Draft picks in Aztec wideouts Chaz Schilens (Oakland Raiders) and Brett Swain (Green Bay Packers). Swain was a second team all-conference pick in 2007, finishing 30th nationally and second in the league in receiving yards per contest (79.6). Schilens ended his career with three straight 100-yard receiving games and ranked No. 1 in the Mountain West in 2007 in receiving yards in league outings (100.7 ypg.).
- Returned to SDSU in 2005, after a two-year stay on Mike Riley's staff at Oregon State, which saw the Beavers earn invitations to two straight postseason bowl games.
- From 1994-96, McDaniel coached the special teams and secondary at SDSU, and in 2002, he was the receivers and special teams coach. That season, Aztec wideouts J.R. Tolver and Kassim Osgood set NCAA single-season records for receptions and receiving yards by two teammates.
- Prior to 2002, McDaniel was on the staff at California, coaching the Golden Bear special teams and assisting with the defensive backs.
- Served as a coach and administrator with the Washington Redskins from 1998 to 2000. Was the Redskins special teams coach for three seasons under head coach Norv Turner.
- NFL background also includes a one-year stint as the wide receivers coach for the Phoenix Cardinals (1993) and a stop with the Philadelphia Eagles as a pro scout.
- Began his coaching career at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif., before joining the San Diego Chargers in 1989 as assistant special teams coach. He remained with the Chargers until he returned to his alma mater, Cal Poly, as special teams and secondary coach in 1992.
PLAYING EXPERIENCE
- Cornerback on Cal Poly's 1980 NCAA Division II National Championship football team. Honorable mention All-American as a senior, a two-time team captain and finished his career with 13 career interceptions. Inducted into the Cal Poly Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
- Spent four years in the NFL with the Giants and Redskins, where he was a part of a Super Bowl championship team in 1983.
EDUCATION
- Received his bachelor's degree in social sciences from Cal Poly in 1981.
PERSONAL
- McDaniel and his wife, Sheryl, have a son and two daughters.
