#AztecMBB Notebook: SDSU Climbs in Coaches Poll
Dec. 30, 2013
SAN DIEGO - On the heels of a Division I era school record 83-point victory, San Diego State moved up one position to No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches Poll released Monday. The Aztecs are tied for 19th in the rankings with North Carolina.
It marks the highest ranking the Aztecs have enjoyed in either of the two major polls this season and its highest ranking since Jan. 14, 2013, when SDSU was 15th in the Associated Press poll and 14th in the coaches poll.
Despite winning nine consecutive games, the Aztecs actually dropped one spot in the Associated Press poll released today, moving from No. 20 to No. 21. It marked the fifth consecutive week that the Aztecs have been ranked in the AP Top 25.
Tip Time Set For Sunday
One day after releasing the game time for Sunday's showdown between No. 21/T-19 San Diego State (10-1) and No. 16/17 Kansas (8-3, entering Monday night's game), CBS has announced that tip time is set for 1:38 p.m. PT.
Tip time, which is a few minutes later than what television typically requests, was pushed back in an effort to make sure the game can be seen in its entirety. CBS will show the AFC Wild Card game between San Diego and Cincinnati beginning at 10 a.m. PT.
Uniforms Set For The Week
San Diego State will wear red uniforms Wednesday at Colorado State and will wear black uniforms at Kansas on Sunday. The Aztecs are 1-0 in both uniforms this season, with a win over Creighton in the reds and a victory against San Diego in the blacks.
Sagarin Likes The Aztecs
Jeff Sagarin's computer ratings continue to like the Aztecs. Through Sunday's games, the Aztecs rank 18th nationally in the ratings. San Diego State is the highest rated team in the Mountain West Conference.
One oddity to the numbers, Creighton, a team the Aztecs defeated on a neutral court in the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy, is currently ranked No. 17, one spot ahead of SDSU.
San Diego State's Wednesday opponent, Colorado State is ranked 135th, while Kansas is ranked ninth.
