Dec. 24, 2012
HONOLULU -
SDSU Game Notes
The Last Meeting
November 23, 2011
Tucson, Ariz.
The Aztecs are looking to extend several significant winning streaks, including an 11-game overall win streak (T-4th-longest active win streak nationally), a 24-game December win streak (2nd-longest nationally), a 12-game win streak at multi-team in-season events and an 11-game win streak vs. the Pac-12 Conference (3rd-longest nationally). San Diego State is 2-0 vs. the Pac-12 this season after winning at USC and at a neutral court vs. UCLA in back-to-back outings. The Aztecs-Wildcats match-up will pit two teams that currently own 11-game winning streaks, which is tied for the fourth-longest nationally along with Duke. Whichever team emerges victorious will tie for the longest streak in the nation. SDSU is in the final after earning a hard-fought 62-55 victory over Indiana State on Sunday. The Aztecs surrendered a three-point halftime lead, trailed by as many as four in the second half before pulling away late thanks to some excellent free-throw shooting. The Sycamores outshot San Diego State from the floor, 43.8 percent to 41.7 percent, but the Aztecs, who started the game 5-for-14 from the free-throw line in the first 33 minutes, 23 seconds, ended the contest by connecting on 13 of their last 14 from the charity stripe. Jamaal Franklin led all players with 19 points and a season-high 15 rebounds, to log his fifth double-double of the season. Chase Tapley, who was coming off a career 33-point effort the afternoon before vs. San Francisco, finished with 13 points. Xavier Thames, meanwhile, added 12 points, three assists and a game-high four steals, which was one off his career high. |
