SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's basketball coach Steve Fisher announced the signing of Jamaal Franklin to a National Letter of Intent on Friday. Franklin will arrive on campus and be eligible to play beginning with the 2010-11 season.

"We are very excited about Jamaal joining the Aztec basketball family," Fisher said. "He will be a great addition to our already athletic wing players, who have the ability to play multiple positions. He is a terrific young man, who brings great energy to the court and we look forward to having him be a part of the San Diego State basketball program."

Franklin currently attends Westwind Prep International High School in Phoenix, Ariz., where he is averaging a team-best 25.2 points for the Warriors.

Prior to attending Westwind, the 6-5, 190-pound wing played at Serrano High School in Phelan, Calif., where he led the Diamondbacks in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocked shots during his final two seasons.

In 2008-09, Franklin averaged 31.7 points, 15.4 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 4.9 blocks, while leading Serrano to the playoffs. At least four times Franklin scored 40 or more points, including back-to-back outings against Rancho Cucamonga and Compton High.

In 2007-08, Franklin completed his junior campaign by guiding the Diamondbacks to a 25-5 record and an undefeated 8-0 league mark. That season, Franklin averaged 22.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.0 blocks. A year prior to that, Franklin was the team's top shot blocker (1.1) and helped Serrano to league championship and a 25-4 record.
