The Aztecs, who have been picked to finish as high as first place in the Mountain West and reach the NCAA tournament in 2013-14 by preseason prognosticators, return a pair of seniors in Xavier Thames and Josh Davis.
Thames is considered one of the Mountain West's top-10 players for 2013-14 by Sporting News. Last year, Thames played in 30 games, starting 25, for the Aztecs and averaged 9.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 28.7 minutes.
A new addition to the Aztecs this year is forward Josh Davis, a transfer from Tulane. Davis was chosen as the preseason Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and is projected as a first-team all-conference selection by multiple members of the media. Last year, Davis finished fourth in the NCAA in double-doubles and eighth in rebounding.
SDSU finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 23-11 overall record and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive season. The Aztecs also earned a spot in the third round of the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years.
