Updated Results for Fisher Era Top 10
Aug. 19, 2008
SAN DIEGO -
With voting more than half over and just 11 days to voice your opinion in choosing the top 10 games of the Steve Fisher era, the San Diego State victory over UNLV in the finals of the 2002 Mountain West Conference tournament remains the top vote-getter among the 28 nominees. In fact, there was no movement in the top two spots as the Aztec victory over Wyoming in the finals of 2006 MWC tournament held its position at No. 2. After Nos. 1-2 is where all of the movement occurred, beginning with the SDSU home game vs. Fresno State in 2001. That contest, which was No. 5, moved up two slots to No. 3, while the 2007 NIT road game vs. Missouri State jumped three spots to No. 4. The 2000 Arizona State game, where an apparent Sun Devil half-court shot was disallowed, saw a drop-off in votes and slid from No. 3 to No. 5. Meanwhile, the 2006 MWC regular-season title-clinching tilt vs. Wyoming maintained its hold on sixth place after 18 days of voting. Since the last update, the top 10 welcomed three new entries at Nos. 7-8 with San Diego State's win over UC Santa Barbara in the 2003 NIT coming in seventh place. That decision earned SDSU its first Division I postseason victory and first since 1968. At No. 8 is the Aztecs' road win at New Mexico back in 2006. The 73-66 victory at The Pit clinched SDSU a share of the MWC regular-season crown, en route to its first outright league championship since 1978. San Diego State's victory over top-seeded Wyoming in the 2002 MWC tournament semifinals makes its debut at No. 9. Rounding out the top 10 is SDSU's triumph at Brigham Young in 2005 when Chris Walton's shot at the buzzer gave the Aztecs just their third win in Provo. Last week the game was the ninth-rated contest. The polls are still open and voting closes on Friday, Aug. 29, while the countdown commences Friday, Sept. 5, with the announcement of Game No. 10. The countdown will continue every Friday thereafter with the top game revealed Friday, Nov. 7. The Fisher Era Top 10 (as of Aug. 19)
