SDSU Game Notes
The Last Meeting
January 12, 2013
Viejas Arena
Game time is set for 8 p.m. MT (7 p.m. PT) and the contest will be televised by CBS Sports Network, with radio coverage on AM 600 KOGO and 101 KGB. On Saturday, San Diego State extended its win streak over California teams to 33 (that is the longest active streak for any school over any state in the nation according to STATS, Inc., data since 1996-97), with a 75-53 victory over Fresno State at Viejas Arena. The Aztecs trailed only once in the game (2-0), led by double digits the last 18:43 of the contest and by 20 or more points the final 12:26 of the game. The Aztecs shot 50 percent from the field, held the Bulldogs to 29.3 percent from the floor and owned a 43-33 rebound advantage. Junior forward and All-America candidate Jamaal Franklin became the 28th player in school history to post 1,000 points and became just the 11th Aztec to reach that plateau and record 500 rebounds while at SDSU, with a team-high-tying 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. It was his ninth double-double of the season and the 22nd of his career. Senior guard James Rahon scored 14 points, making 2-of-4 three-point field goals, to record his third consecutive double-figure scoring game (a first while at SDSU). After missing the two previous games and four conference dates altogether, junior point guard Xavier Thames returned to the lineup. He played 13 minutes and had five points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and no turnovers. San Diego State concludes the treacherous week by playing at UNLV (18-6; 5-4 MW). The Rebels have won 12 straight home games and enter the week with the 15th-longest homecourt win streak in the nation. |
