SAN DIEGO -
Having posted consecutive conference victories of at least 20 points for the first time in 30 years, No. 22/20 San Diego State (16-4; 4-2 Mountain West) travels to USAF Academy, Colo., to face Air Force (13-6; 4-2 MW) on Saturday afternoon in a battle between two of the four second-place MWC teams. Game time is set for 1 p.m. MT (noon PT) and the contest will be televised by Time Warner Cable SportsNet, with radio coverage on AM 600 KOGO and 101 KGB.
San Diego State, the two-time defending regular-season Mountain West Conference champions, ran its modest winning streak to two games last Saturday with a 55-34 victory over No. 15/17 New Mexico. The 21-point margin matched the largest margin of victory over a nationally ranked opponent in school history as SDSU held New Mexico to its lowest point total since 1976. Sophomore forward JJ O'Brien earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors as he posted his first double-double as a member of the Aztecs (third overall), with a team-high 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior forward Jamaal Franklin added 10 points, seven rebounds, game-high three assists and two steals.
The Aztecs held the Lobos to 34 points and 25.0-percent field-goal shooting (11-of-44), and owned a 41-26 advantage on the glass. SDSU never trailed in the game.
Following a disappointing performance at Wyoming, San Diego State has now responded with consecutive 21-point victories. It marks the first time the Aztecs have recorded league victories of 20 points or more since Jan. 31 and Feb. 3, 1983.
San Diego State faces an Air Force squad that has posted a 9-1 record at Clune Arena this season. The Falcons have shot 52.5 percent from the field and 41.4 percent from three-point range in home games this season. All nine of their home wins have come by at least 11 points.
Following the game, San Diego State will return home to conclude the first-half of MW play with a contest against Boise State. Game time on Wednesday is set for 8 p.m. PT.
