ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -D.J. Gay shot San Diego State to the title of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Gay made five of his six 3-pointers in the first half, finished with 20 points, and the Aztecs routed Hampton 76-47 on Saturday night to win the 31st edition of the Thanksgiving week tournament in the cold north.

While Gay's shooting was solid, the Aztecs' defense was even more impressive. SDSU held Hampton scoreless for the first 6:45 of the game, building a 15-0 lead that was never challenged.

The Aztecs (6-1) are the first team from the Mountain West Conference to win the Shootout title.

Hampton (3-3) was led by 15 points from Vincent Simpson. Leading scorer Michael Freeman was held to four points.
