SAN DIEGO - Four days before the tipoff of one of the most anticipated seasons in school history, San Diego State disposed of Point Loma Nazarene in an exhibition game at Viejas Arena, 89-56. All five Aztec starters scored in double figures as the Aztecs never trailed in extending their winning streak in exhibition games to 15 games. The Aztecs looked much sharper tonight than they did a week ago in their first exhibition game, a 72-57 victory over Cal Baptist.

Sophomore guard Tyrone Shelley connected on 5-of-8 attempts from three-point range en route to game-highs of 24 points and nine rebounds. Freshman forward Kawhi Leonard added 16 points, four rebounds and four steals. Junior center Brian Carlwell tallied 15 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Malcolm Thomas, meanwhile, made his first four field goal attempts, including an electrifying dunk following a low-post spin move, and ended the contest with 13 points and nine rebounds.

After being held to two points in the first half, junior guard D.J. Gay scored eight second-half points to end the contest with 10 points and a game-high five assists.

The Aztecs dominated the glass, outrebounding Point Loma Nazarene, 46-31. San Diego State had seven players credited with an offensive rebound and ended the game with 17 offensive boards.

San Diego State, which set a school-record for defensive field-goal percentage last season, held the Sea Lions to 37.3 percent field-goal shooting, including 2-of-18 from three-point range. The Aztecs had 11 steals in the game.

For the second consecutive exhibition game, San Diego State played without consensus preseason all-Mountain West Conference performer and the team's leading returning scorer Billy White (wrist) and the team's leading returning rebounder from a year ago Tim Shelton (knee). Both players are questionable for the regular-season opener on Saturday.

San Diego State officially opens the 2009-10 campaign with a hectic 72 hours. The Aztecs play host UC San Diego at Viejas Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT (football plays host to Wyoming at 7 p.m. PT), before traveling to Moraga, Calif., to battle Saint Mary's on Monday night at 11 p.m. PT on ESPN.
