Schroyer Named Preseason Baseball All-American

Dec. 27, 2003

San Diego - San Diego State senior pitcher Ryan Schroyer has been named to the Louisville Slugger preseason All-America third team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The right-hander from Oracle, Ariz., comes to San Diego State this season after three years at Arizona State. Last season he appeared in 30 games (all in relief), compiling a record of 5-2 with nine saves and a 1.53 earned run average. He was named to the all-Pac-10 first team and was selected in the 11th round by the Minnesota Twins in last June's major league draft.

Schroyer's career numbers at ASU include a record of 11-5 with 17 saves and a 3.11 earned run average. He recorded 156 strikeouts in 136 innings, and his ERA in his final two years with the Sun Devils was 2.01.

He was named a freshman All-American in 2001 and an honorable mention All-Pac-10 athlete in 2002. This past summer, he pitched for the Orleans Cardinals in the Cape Cod League where he posted a 1-0 record along with three saves and a 1.42 ERA, striking out 24 and walking just four over 19 innings. His final save came in the league title game as Orleans won the 2003 league championship.

Schroyer and his Aztec teammates will return from the holiday break on Jan. 6 to begin practice for the upcoming season. SDSU opens s 2003 campaign with six games at Hawai'i-Hilo beginning Jan. 23. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, against Sacramento State at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
