SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State baseball program will hold its first-ever Red-Black World Series this week as it concludes its 2009 fall practice season. The series will consist of a trio of nine-inning contests over three days and is open to the public free of charge.

The three-game series will commence on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Subsequent contests are schedule for Friday (Nov. 20) at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday (Nov. 21) at 1:00 p.m. The team will have full batting practice and infield before the Friday and Saturday games with no batting practice prior to Thursday's contest.

The Red-Black World Series is a chance for fans to get an early glimpse of the 2010 San Diego State baseball squad. An autograph session will be held after the final game of the series on Saturday and fans will also have a chance to meet the 2010 Aztec squad during a free car wash that is open to the public on Sunday from 9 am-1 pm at the stadium.

Each team in the series has been appointed an "owner" and "general manger" who will preside over the Series draft which will take place on Wednesday (Nov. 18). Senior Pat Colwell and sophomore Brandon Meredith are the GM and owner of one team while the other will have sophomore Ryan O'Sullivan as its general manager and junior Cory Vaughn as its owner. Rosters and pitching rotations will be available following the draft.

Following the Red-Black World Series, the team will be idle until it resumes practice in February. The Aztecs will open their 2010 campaign on Friday, February 19, with a game against Oklahoma at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
