Hill, Harang Capture Weekly Conference Baseball Awards
May 24, 2004 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State lefthander Daryl Harang was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, while Aztec outfielder Josh Hill shared Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors with New Mexico shortstop Josh Mader. Hill, from Lakeside, Calif. (El Captain HS), led the Aztecs to a series sweep of Utah and the regular season MWC title by going 7-for-13 (.538) from the plate with six RBI last week. In game one, he smacked a three-run homer in the eighth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie and boosting SDSU to a 6-4 victory. In game two he was 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI in a 7-1 win. Hill was 3-for-3 in the series finale, with three runs scored, two RBI, a double and two walks as SDSU won 18-2. Harang, from San Diego, Calif. (Patrick Henry HS), allowed just three hits and struck out six through six innings of work vs. Utah in SDSU's win over Utah last Thursday. The victory was his fifth win in the last six decisions and third win in his last four starts.
After securing the regular-season Mountain West Conference title last weekend, the Aztecs will travel to Las Vegas to play in the MWC Tournament this week. SDSU, which earned a first-round bye, will open play on Thursday (May 27) at 3:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined after Wednesday's play.
