Feb. 4, 2002

San Diego - San Diego State University sophomore Chad Corona has been named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. The third baseman earned the honor for the first time as an Aztec.

A native of Carlsbad, Calif. (Rancho Santa Fe Christian HS), Corona helped the Aztecs post a 4-1 record at Hawaii-Hilo last week by hitting .429 with three home runs, four doubles and seven RBI. Corona hit three two-run homers in the series, including two in Saturday's 9-0 win, and scored at least one run in four of the five games. The Aztec third baseman also totaled 14 assists and four putouts from the hot corner.

San Diego State opens its 2002 home season Tuesday night (Feb. 5) when it hosts UC Riverside at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The game will be televised locally by Cox Channel 4 and can also be heard live on the Internet at www.goaztecs.com.
