Box Score

SAN DIEGO - A two-out two-run double from pinch hitter Pilar Amaya in the bottom of the ninth with the San Diego State baseball team trailing, 8-7 enabled to Aztecs to defeat Oklahoma University, 9-8 on Friday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

In a game that saw three lead changes in the final four innings, SDSU rallied to pick up its second dramatic comeback win in its last three games. The Aztecs (4-4 overall) were led by an all-around effort from shortstop Taber Lee and by solid pitching out of the bullpen. Lee went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a run batted in. SDSU relievers Ben Julianel, John Skinner, Mike Garber and Royce Ring teamed to hold the Sooners (2-5 overall) to three runs in five innings of work.

SDSU outfielder Anthony Gwynn's hot bat continued to sizzle, as the freshman went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Gwynn, who has found his niche as the Aztecs' leadoff man, has now scored 10 runs in his last five games.

In other San Diego Classic action on Friday, the University of San Diego hammered UC Riverside, 23-8, while Oregon State edged Texas Tech, 5-4.

The Aztecs return to action at 6 p.m. tomorrow when they host Texas Tech at Tony Gwynn Stadium in day three action of the San Diego Classic.

The Classic resumes at 10 a.m. when Oregon State takes on UC Riverside. Oklahoma will take on USD at 2 p.m., with SDSU locking up with the Red Raiders in the finale at 6 p.m.
