Became the Aztecs’ starting catcher as a junior after spending the previous season as a pitcher...Originally came to San Diego State as a catcher out of high school...After redshirting his first season (1998), saw some action behind the plate in 1999...After competing the 2000 season as a pitcher, returned to catching duties last season.

2001: Was named San Diego State’s Most Valuable Player...Led the Mountain West Conference by throwing out 29 would-be base stealers...That total was nine higher than the second-highest total in the conference...Making that total more impressive was the fact that he entered the season as SDSU's second-string catcher...Was thrust into the lineup after Ben Rosenthal dislocated his shoulder early in the year...Had three contests in which he banged out three hits...Hit his first home run as an Aztec against UNLV on April 13 in Las Vegas... Went 3-for-4 in that contest with a season-high three runs batted in...Had an eight-game hitting streak from April 6-17 during which he hit .393 (11-for-28) with a double and three runs batted in...Set school mark with three sacrifice bunts in a game vs. Utah on May 5...Had 14 multiple-hit games... His three triples tied for second-most on the club...Hit .383 when leading off an inning...Average of .421 with a runner on third and less than two outs.

2000: Made two appearances on the mound, both in relief...Pitched a total of 1.2 innings vs. Oklahoma State in two games in February. 1999: Appeared in 18 games as a redshirt freshman in 1999, starting 12 times at catcher...Had two runs batted in against both New Mexico State and Nebraska.

1998: Sat out his freshman season at San Diego State due to injury... Played in San Diego State’s exhibition games against the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees, going 0-for-1 in each contest.

High School: A three-year baseball letterwinner at Newark Memorial High School...Played there for coach Dan Freitas...Most Valuable Player as a senior for Cougars team that finished second in MVAL... Also team MVP as a junior...Batted .326 as a senior and .489 as a junior while driving in a league-leading 36 runs...Selected to all-East Bay team as a junior...Member of San Francisco Giants Area Code team...Named to the all-league squad three years...Honor student who also played basketball.
