Information
Mick McGrane of the Union-Tribune, "Davion Mauldin, a junior
transfer from Cerritos College, is pressing to
become San Diego State's fifth cornerback. Yet
it's Mauldin's skills as a kick returner that
are creating a buzz eight days before the
Aztecs' season opener against Cal Poly." Today's Clips
Scott Bair of the North County Times quoting Coach Long on Mike
Schmidt, "'He's tough," Long said. "Every
offensive line has to have a guy that's gritty
and isn't afraid to mix it up a bit. If he's
there, the rest of the guys follow suit. Mike
provides that for us. That's how Mike leads.
He's not really a vocal guy, but he's a
hard-nosed player who never comes out of the
lineup.""

Staff of Baseball America quoting USA manager Davey Johnson "I
thought Stephen (Strasburg) was throwing the
ball exceptionally well, but he had 75 pitches
after four (innings). He's got too good a future
ahead of him. I didn't want him to go out there
and labor at all in the fifth."
