Amalie Benjamin of The Boston Globe, "Justin Masterson had a performance yesterday reminiscent of his first relief
appearance for the Red Sox. In that game, Masterson threw 2 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings at Seattle July 23. Yesterday,
Masterson threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five."
Mick McGrane of The San Diego Union-Tribune, "What Allen craves can't be plucked from a pile of personal accomplishments
or stumbled upon in the recesses of an equipment room. Allen wants to win. And the clock on the wall provides a noisy reminder that
it's now or never."
John Tomase of the Boston Herald, "Justin Masterson has a fan, and he's a future Hall of Famer. White Sox slugger Jim
Thome had already blasted the 531st home run of his career three innings earlier when he stepped in against Masterson in the sixth
yesterday. Four pitches later he sat down after swinging over strike three."
Rick Alonzo of the Pioneer Press, "Farwell tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the exhibition opener
against Seattle when another player rolled onto his leg as he came off a block. It's a season-ending injury, leaving his future with
the team beyond this year in question. Now the Vikings are forced to move forward without their best special-teams player and will try to fill the void internally. Childress said Sunday he doesn't anticipate looking outside the organization for help."
David Brown of the South Coast Today, "(Kevin) O'Connell had the best day, but he did it against the worst of the Ravens
defense." |
