Fifty-Three Aztecs Named To MW All-Academic Team

2012 SDSU All-Academic Honorees SAN DIEGO -- Fifty-three San Diego State student-athletes from nine different sports have been named to the spring 2012 Academic All-Mountain West team, the league office announced on Tuesday. The Aztec women's track and field team had the largest amount of SDSU honorees with 16 selections, highlighted by freshman Monique Martinez, who has a 3.88 grade-point average in history. The highest GPA among the fifty-three student-athletes selected was a 3.94 in political science by freshman baseball player Greg Allen. In addition, the women's swimming and diving squad had 13 of its members selected, while baseball had seven individuals followed by women's tennis (six), softball (four) and men's tennis (three). To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at their school while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor to their team. |
