Aztecs to Play at MWC Tennis Championships Beginning Thursday

SAN DIEGO - The nationally-ranked San Diego State men's and women's tennis teams begin their quest for an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament this Thursday as the 2005 Mountain West Conference Championships get underway at Barnes Tennis Center. The tournament, hosted by San Diego State, will begin Thursday and run through Saturday.
Slated for Thursday are four women's quarterfinal matches, starting with second-seeded New Mexico taking on No. 7 seed Wyoming and (3)UNLV facing (6)Colorado State at 10 a.m. In the afternoon session, top-seeded Brigham Young plays No. 8 seed Air Force, while fourth-seeded San Diego State (15-9, 4-3 MWC) takes on the No. 5 seed, Utah. Both matches are scheduled for 2 p.m. starts.
Women's semifinal and backdraw play continues Friday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The fifth-place and championship matches will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively.
On the men's side, third-seeded New Mexico faces No. 6 seed Air Force at 11 a.m. Later in the day, (4)UNLV plays (5)Utah at 2:30 p.m. Both San Diego State and Brigham Young begin play Friday as a result of their first round byes. The Aztecs (15-5, 5-0 MWC) won the regular season crown outright, while the Cougars finished a game behind SDSU in conference action.
The men's semifinal matches will kick off at 11 a.m. Friday with Brigham Young taking on the winner of the New Mexico-Air Force match. The top-seeded Aztecs will face the winner of UNLV-Utah at 2:30 p.m. The men's championship match is scheduled for Saturday at noon.
All-tournament packages are $10 for adults and $5 for those 18-years and under. Single session tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for persons 18 and under.
