Mission Bay offers 4,000 acres of water to train on
and is home to one of the world's largest rowing
regattas, the San Diego Crew Classic. With distance
markers along the shoreline, Mission Bay has many areas
designated for accurate boat speed work. From straight
courses to infinitely continuous pieces, the bay,
boathouse and balmy weather provides a rower's paradise
year-round.
Mission Bay Aquatic Center
The San Diego State women's crew team has called the
Mission Bay Aquatic Center its home for more than 20
years. This state-of-the-art aquatic center is located
in the beautiful Mission Bay Park on the south end of
Santa Clara Point off Mission Boulevard, in Mission
Beach.
Built in 1974, the Mission Bay Aquatic center is
consider to be one of the finest boathouses in the
Division I level. The 24,000 square foot redwood
facility occupies one-half acre of land. Some of the
quality features, included are a three bay rowing
center, dock, locker rooms with showers, lounge area
with fireplace, reception office, classrooms, complete
shop, coaches launches, storage yard, patio and
administrative offices.
There are also ample beaches with surrounding grassy
areas, picnic tables, barbecues, swimming areas, lighted
tennis and basketball courts, a playing field, boat
launching ramp, parking areas and a 4,000 acre water
recreation area for all types of aquatic related
activities.
The Center, which is the world's largest
instructional waterfront facility, has received national
recognition, and is considered a modern-model facility. |
