Student-Athlete Academic Support Services employs a full-time Learning Specialist to focus on the unique academic needs of all SDSU student-athletes. The learning support program is coordinated by the Learning Specialist who also oversees student-athlete mentors and tutors. More specifically, this individual performs the following services:
- Hires, trains and supervises all mentors and tutors
- Screens all incoming student-athletes for learning concerns using the Education Enhancement Assessment
- Serves as liaison to Student Disability Services
- Works with "academically at-risk" student-athletes by:
- Assisting with weekly planning
- Reviewing each of a student-athlete's classes for rigor and performance
- Assisting with reading strategies
- Reviewing use of SDS accommodations
