Academic Advising

SDSU student-athletes benefit from the dedication of SAASS's academic advising team. SAASS advisors are committed to the pursuit of holistic development in each student-athlete during their collegiate experience. As a result, SDSU coaches encourage all student-athletes to take full advantage of the SAASS academic advising process.

Upon admission, each SDSU student-athlete is assigned an academic advisor who will work with that individual up to and through their ultimate graduation. This guidance is intended to aid the student-athlete in pursuing and obtaining their academic, career and life goals. The advisor both supports and challenges the student-athlete in an effort to increase confidence and self-sufficiency over their stay at SDSU.

As student-athletes advance through their collegiate career, they are expected to assume increased responsibility for complying with academic standards and regulations, initiating the use of support services, and making good decisions about the integration of their academic and co-curricular activities. In this way, the academic advising program offers both assistance and ecouragement toward the personal growth of the student-athlete.

The following are just some of the daily services provided SDSU student-athletes by SAASS academic advisors:

  • Offering orientation sessions to all new SDSU student-athletes
  • Aiding student-athletes in making the best use of their priority registration
  • Assisting student-athletes with class selection for personal scheduling, degree completion and eligibility maintenance
  • Teaching semester-long University seminar courses for student-athletes
  • Providing guidance on all SDSU and Mountain West Conference policies and procedures
  • Developing relationships with SDSU faculty and staff to direct student-athletes toward campus resources.
  • Providing a confidential "ear" regarding any and all student-athlete concerns
  • Encouraging student-athletes' pursuit of larger personal and academic goals
